General Habitat Management Techniques

A combination of management practices is often necessary depending upon the habitat management objective. This guide links the user to reference sites that can be used in developing habitat restoration and management plans. These reference sites can be used to predict and evaluate measureable progress towards the habitat management objectives. Links to reference sites are included under the various habitat categories.

Some species in the wildlife section have specific habitat management requirements that can help define long-term management objectives and goals. Including a monitoring component in the plan can help identify where changes in the practices may be warranted. The U. S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has produced the Electronic Field Office Technical Guide (eFOTG), which includes habitat management practices under Section IV, organized by county.
